Amaterasu Omikami, goddess of the sun and ruler of the heavens, was once so offended by the misdeeds of her younger brother that she came down to Earth and hid
in a cave. The universe was plunged into darkness and chaos, and evil thrived. The gods and goddesses gathered near the cave to discuss how to get her to come
out. They decided to hold a party. A goddess began to dance and, as she whirled about, her clothes fell off, drawing cheers from the gods. Curious about all
the merriment, Amaterasu Omikami peeped out of the cave. The dancing goddess held up a mirror and said, "We are celebrating because a more noble goddess
has come to us." Amaterasu Omikami emerged to see this new goddess, but what she saw was her own reflection. A god known for his strength prevented her
from returning to the cave and the others pleaded with her to never hide again.
